Loads of companies these days throw around big words like revolutionary, game-changing, and groundbreaking—words we marketers are becoming increasingly allergic to.

But unlike the majority of companies claiming to ‘revolutionise X’, Source.ag isn’t just talking.

The fast-growing AgTech (agricultural technology) start-up puts AI to work in greenhouses, helping farmers grow more with less waste, less water, and less guesswork. Its AI models predict precisely what crops need, adjusting irrigation, climate, and nutrients in real-time so growers can focus on what matters: higher yields with fewer inputs—pretty groundbreaking stuff.

However, a significant challenge emerged as the company expanded: how do you scale highly technical agricultural content across multiple languages while ensuring accuracy?

Every region has its own agricultural terminology, and miscommunication can lead to real-world problems, from inaccurate crop measurements to wasted resources.

Source.ag needed a content solution that could:

  • Maintain technical accuracy and consistency across all markets
  • Ensure accurate, region-specific terminology
  • Expand efficiently to match Source.ag’s fast-paced product development

That’s where Contentoo came in.

The brief

Source.ag needed a content partner capable of handling highly technical agricultural content across multiple languages—one that could update content weekly to keep up with frequent feature releases. The content had to reflect precise agricultural terminology to ensure clarity for greenhouse workers, agronomists, and decision-makers alike.

Building a content system for a fast-growing Agtech company

Before working with Contentoo, the team at Source.ag faced three major content challenges. First up:

Technical accuracy

Greenhouse farming is a highly technical industry governed by strict protocols that dictate everything from climate control to plant health monitoring. Any inconsistency in wording could cause operational errors in the field.

"As we expanded, it became clear that literal translation wasn’t enough. Agricultural terminology varies between regions. What growers in the Netherlands call one thing might be completely different in Mexico or Germany. We needed expertise, not just translation."

Without precise industry knowledge, incorrect translations could lead to:

  • Greenhouse workers often misinterpret AI-generated protocols, resulting in inefficient crop care.
  • Measurement errors that impact yield predictions and resource allocation.
  • Mismatched terminology that confuses users navigating different language versions of the platform.
"For us, agriculture is a science, and our platform helps growers make data-driven decisions. If we get the wording wrong, we risk miscommunication that can affect entire harvest cycles."

With Source.ag expanding into multiple markets, it was clear that generalist translators wouldn’t suffice. The company needed writers with expertise in agriculture and AI to ensure accuracy at every level. Contentoo’s subject-matter experts also identified and corrected terminology inconsistencies, helping ensure platform-wide content accuracy and clarity.

The next challenge to face:

A fast-paced product needs a scalable workflow

Source.ag’s AI-driven platform evolves rapidly, with weekly feature updates and constant improvements. This means all product-related content—from UI text to training materials—must be updated at the same pace.

"We’re constantly rolling out new features and improving the platform. That means our content, across all seven languages, must be updated just as fast."

Managing localisation in-house quickly became impractical:

  • Freelance translators couldn’t always keep up with weekly updates.
  • In-house teams couldn’t manage multiple languages simultaneously.
  • Ensuring consistency across technical materials became increasingly difficult.

We didn’t want to come into situations where we work with one translator, and then that person goes on holiday and is unavailable. We needed a content partner who could operate at our speed. Every week, something new is being developed, and we can’t afford delays in making that information available across all markets.

Source.ag needed a reliable, repeatable content process that could:

  • Deliver content updates quickly while maintaining accuracy.
  • Ensure terminology consistency across multiple languages.
  • Handle translation at scale without creating bottlenecks.

Since working with Contentoo, Source.ag has achieved 100% on-time delivery for weekly content updates across seven languages, keeping pace with the company’s product velocity without bottlenecks.

And the final challenge:

Localisation had to be practical for real-world agricultural work

Unlike most SaaS platforms, Source.ag’s end users work directly in greenhouses, making critical irrigation, nutrient, and climate control decisions based on AI-driven recommendations. Many of these workers do not speak English, and a misunderstanding content could affect productivity.

"We operate in a global industry, but farming is local. If growers can’t understand our platform in their native language, they can’t use it effectively."

This meant that:

  • Translations had to use the correct industry terminology for each region.
  • Content had to be easily understood by both decision-makers and field workers.
  • Source.ag needed a partner that could guarantee consistency across all content types.

With Contentoo, we had access to industry experts from day one. One of our biggest challenges was finding writers and translators who actually understand agriculture. We didn’t have to waste time searching for specialists—they already had a network of experts who knew AgTech inside out.

Contentoo provided:

  • A dedicated team of AgTech content experts.
  • A streamlined content production system to handle weekly updates.
  • Consistency across seven languages, eliminating discrepancies.
  • Easy integration with Source.ag’s workflow.

Faster expansion, smoother onboarding, and consistent localisation quality

Since partnering with Contentoo, Source.ag has scaled its content operations without sacrificing precision.

With content now available in English, Dutch, Spanish, German, Polish, Russian, and French, the company can confidently enter new markets while ensuring growers and agronomists receive clear, localised information tailored to their needs.

Source.ag’s expansion into Germany hinged on delivering high-quality German content in time for Logistica, Europe’s largest horticulture trade fair, attended by thousands of industry leaders. Contentoo was able to source the right translator and deliver everything in just over a month, allowing Source.ag to launch with fully localised materials. The localisation process, which initially took 4–6 weeks per language, was reduced by 50%, with German completed in just two weeks.

Localisation also played a critical role in Source.ag’s onboarding process in Mexico. Many greenhouse workers in the region spoke only Spanish, while Source.ag’s onboarding specialists did not. Training sessions became a challenge—until we helped develop fully localised training materials, ensuring clear communication and a smoother onboarding process.

"Our onboarding specialist didn’t speak Spanish, and the workers didn’t understand English. Having fully translated content on their iPads made training much smoother."

In one example, a greenhouse worker in Mexico completed 24 plant measurements in under three hours, without asking a single question. With the app available in Spanish, training was smooth despite the language barrier.

Beyond translation, Contentoo also helped improve consistency across Source.ag’s technical content. Rather than simply converting words from one language to another, their team identified inconsistencies and discrepancies in terminology, ensuring that every translation aligned with Source.ag’s industry-specific language.

"The fact that we can sign a new customer in a key market and unlock it so quickly—it’s not a big cost to add a new language—that just helps."

With a structured, scalable content system in place, Source.ag no longer sees localisation as a bottleneck. It’s now an enabler of global growth, supporting faster onboarding, seamless weekly content delivery, and consistent product communication in every market.
